(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker says hospitalizations are rising in Illinois for people who are sick with COVID-19.

On Thursday, he once again stressed the importance of wearing a mask, even for people who may think they don’t have to because they don’t have symptoms.

“When people are not wearing masks, when people are just running around, asymptomatic, and if they’re not getting tested but they are positive, they’re spreading it to other people,” Pritzker said. “And the result is that it’s going into environments in which people who are vulnerable are going to be sick and are going to go to the hospital.”

He added: “Our hospitalizations in the state are rising, and this is problematic.”

The positivity rate in Illinois is now 3.8%. Thursday, state health officials reported
1,953 new cases and 28 deaths from COVID.
