CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Priority for senior citizens to get COVID-19 vaccines at the United Center ends Sunday afternoon, worrying some of those helping this vulnerable group register.

Vaccine Angels working through Facebook have been helping secure thousands of appointments for people over age 65 at the United Center mass vaccination site. Some used Zocdoc to help thousands of seniors scheduled appointments since Tuesday only for them to be cancelled days later.

Vaccine Angels like Victoria Cardenas have been helping elderly people schedule appointments and was disappointment when cancellations emails were sent out.

“To literally watch the cancellation emails roll in is so incredibly frustrating,” Cardenas told CBS 2 Chicago.

She told CBS 2 emails said they were due to an unfortunate technical issue… one that may get worse as the pool of eligible people expands to 1B+.

“It’s scary to think that they could possibly be cancelled especially with the influx that’s going to happen,” Cardenas said.

The city has encouraged those having problems with online registration to call its vaccine hotline at (312) 746-4835.
