CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Two suspects are in custody after an armed robbery in Andersonville Monday night.
In a community update, Ald. Andre Vasquez (40th) said a witness called 911 shortly after 7 p.m. after they saw two people enter a Walgreens, located at 5440 N. Clark St., while wearing ski masks — despite the warm weather.
Chicago police said as officers responded, the robbers, who were armed with handguns, demanded that an employee open the cash registers.
Because of the caller, police were on the scene as the robbers left the Walgreens with the stolen money. Both were taken into custody after a brief chase.
Police said two guns were recovered, and the getaway vehicle was stolen in a carjacking.
Investigators believe the two are also responsible for another robbery.
