
The Chicago Police Department is inviting input from the public regarding racial equity.
The department is putting together what it calls a Racial Equity Action Plan, which is required for all city departments under Municipal Code.
Maggie Hickey, a court-appointed monitor overseeing compliance with a consent decree that followed a justice department finding a “pattern or practice” of civil rights abuses by the CPD, is seeking public input.

She said the action plan will be “a three-year roadmap outlining strategies and actions that the CPD will take to close racial equity gaps, ensure equitable and constitutional policing services for all Chicagoans, and measure progress toward a more equitable police department.”
