CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The St. Jude Police League Memorial March has been cancelled for a second year in a row but that hasn’t stopped the Chicago Police Department from remembering its fallen heroes.
The annual march to remember those in Chicago who have died while wearing the badge traditionally carry solemn moments of remembrance accompanied by bagpipes and attempts rendition. The event typically draws large numbers of the Chicago police force in their finest dress blues.
Now for the second year, however, the annual memorial ceremony bringing the total of names etched in stone at the Gold Star families memorial to 594 proceeds online with a pre-produced video partially narrated by CPD Superintendent David Brown.
"Last year we lost four officers to COVID-19 officer: Marco Di Franco, Sergeant Clifford W. Martin Sr., Officer Ronald Newman and Officer Titus T. Moore,” Brown said.
Also added to the wall this year five fallen officers who died in the line of duty in previous years including Patrick D. Beckham, Frank J. McGraw, Philip T. Romano and Andrew J. Walsh.
