CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Parents of Chicago Public School students found themselves scrambling the past three days for child care or making arrangements to work from home and they may be doing likewise next week.  This means sitters are in demand.

At the local office of College Nannies and Sitters, owner Laura Horwitz is hearing from parents.

"It feels like deja va all over again and they're scrambling-the last minute cancelling of not only classes but school all together," she said.

"They're trying to find coverage for those who have to either leave the home for work or even work remotely and the extra pressure is really tough for them."

Horowitz has some advice for parents. She suggests they should talk to kids about how they’re doing and to try not to feed the kids’ anxiety with their own anxiety.

"Kids don't know what's going on, especially if they're not watching the news as we adults do. Talk about those feelings. Validate their nerves," she told WBBM.

She said her employees – and, yes, she’s also struggled with staffing – are showing up with what she called their bag of tricks -activities to keep kids busy.
