CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Classes start this week at Chicago Public Schools and the district said it will pay some parents to take their kids to school.

A significant number of bus drivers have quit following a COVID-19 vaccine mandate.

Cbs 2 reported that shortage of school bus drivers means a small number of students will not be able to take the bus.

In a letter to parents, CPS said families whose children will not be able to take the bus will be notified before the first day of school.

Some parents are being offered $1,000 upfront and $500 a month to arrange alternative transportation for their kids.

The schools will provide the reimbursement.
