CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Rushed out of the house to catch the bus but forgot your face mask?
Public transit riders who are still adjusting to this new normal may find the Chicago Transit Authority's latest initiative helpful -- and convenient.
The CTA recently launched a pilot program to provide free, disposable masks on its buses.
The program will feature disposable mask dispensers on 200 buses serving 20 bus routes around Chicago. The dispensers will be placed at the front of the bus, close to where customers board. If successful, the program will later expand to the remainder of CTA’s buses, serving all 129 routes as well as rail stations.
“Since the start of the pandemic, my No. 1 focus has been to provide the healthiest travel environment for our customers and employees,” said CTA President Dorval R. Carter Jr. “This new pilot program reflects our unwavering commitment to seek out new tools and ideas to help keep everyone healthy during this ongoing pandemic.”
CTA has increased its efforts to keep buses, trains and stations cleaned and disinfected as well as promote social distancing among riders since the pandemic hit .
