CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- After last weekend’s Michigan Avenue attack on a Chicago bus driver the union representing CTA operators is using the attention from the now viral video to call on greater safety measures.

A small group from the local 241 union representing Chicago Transit Authority operators gathered at City Hall to say that so far this year, there have been around 300 attacks on CTA employees and among their union membership, there's growing concern over operator safety on buses and trains.

A bus operator in the city now for nearly a decade, Marla Mullins told WBBM that while the danger appears to be growing, police response in her experience appears to have diminished.

"In the last five years, no police officer got on the bus to check on me. I hit the alarm and no police person showed up when I was being threatened on the bus," she said. "It don't harm them to check up on us. They used to check on us."

CTA operators are calling on Mayor Lightfoot to step in- adding the no one should be attacked while at work.
