Cubs fans crowded Wrigley Field on Monday, March 27 for the annual “Play for Opening Day” event.
“It’s a dream come true, standing out where countless have hit, so it means the world,” said Chicago native William Waugh.
Waugh was one of the 50 lucky fans who won a lucky scratch-off card and got three chances to bat on the field for a chance to win prizes, including opening day tickets.
“I came all the way from Arizona to hit on Wrigley Field,” said Carol Chapman.

The grand prize was a $1 million for the first lucky fan who hit the stack of Budweiser cases in the upper level of the bleachers.
“I decided to come here with the family and I won free tickets for the on-field batting, and it was a great experience, amazing time,” said Jesse Macias.
The 2023 regular season kicks off at Wrigley Field Thursday, March 30, when the Cubs take on the Milwaukee Brewers.
