DIXMOOR, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A south suburban police official is behind bars Friday morning, charged with steering a witness so a particular person was charged with a crime.
According to the Tribune, three days after a hold-up at a Cricket Wireless store in Dixmoor, an employee thought a man who walked into the store was the same person who robbed it and called police.
That man, Larry Warnsley, hadn’t had a clue there was a robbery there three days prior. But, police arrested him, and when presenting the employee with a photo lineup, Dixmoor Police Commander Jose Villegas allegedly told the employee to pick Warnsley’s picture.
Warnsley was then charged with armed robbery, a class X felony that is punishable by up to 45 years. He spent 18 days in jail before a judge threw out the charges finding no probable cause to hold him.
Dixmoor Police Commander Jose Villegas, 51, was charged Thursday with three felony counts of official misconduct and ordered held on $75,000 bond.
