CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — With a grim COVID-19 projection, a group of Illinois medical professionals is hoping their message resonates with the state.
Dr. Vineet Arora is the founder of the Illinois Medical Professionals Action Collaborative Team, or IMPACT.
“We are on track to exceed ICU bed capacity in Illinois by Thanksgiving,” Arora said Monday. “That is what really prompted us to issue this statement more urgently to highlight the need for the public and for our policy makers to think about stricter measures to help control the spread of the virus.”
Arora said that does not mean a full economic shutdown.
“Reopening responsibly, wearing masks, avoiding indoor gatherings in your home — these are things that can actually stop the spread.”
Other suggestions from IMPACT include encouraging companies to revive work-from-home policies and to avoid gatherings for the Thanksgiving holiday.
“We need your partnership to make it,’ Arora said.
