(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Chicago is still waiting for its first official measurable snowfall, breaking the 2012 record of Dec. 20 as the latest ever.

The manager of one hardware store says even though there is no snow in the immediate forecast now is the time to get ready for bad winter weather.

Tom Gump, at Chicago True Value Hardware on the city's Southwest Side, said too many people wait until the first significant snowfall to get shovels, ice melt, windshield washer fluid and other items.

Gump said the lack of snow means stores like his have plenty of winter weather supplies in stock now.

He said he wishes more of his customers would prepare for snowy weather before it arrives because he often has to disappoint many of them if they wait until the last minute.
