NAPERVILLE, IL (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - On Tuesday, more than a dozen eateries in downtown Naperville will donate 25% of their sales to World Central Kitchen, a nonprofit that’s providing meals to Ukrainian refugees on the Poland border.
“Everybody sees what's going on in the world, and it's heartbreaking,” said Danielle Tufano, Executive Director of the Downtown Naperville Alliance. “I think people here in the United States are looking for ways that they can make a difference.”
The idea for the all-day event came from the owner of SixtyFour Wine Bar & Kitchen, but other merchants were quick to join in.
“It's amazing to see because the restaurant industry is one of those industries with such a small margin to begin with, but they're willing to take 25% of their proceeds for the day, when the margins are already really small, because they understand the importance of what they're doing,” added Tufano.
Participating eateries include:
Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream - Water Street
Bev's - Washington Street
Catch 35 - Washington Street
Cinnaholic - Main Street
Empire Burgers & Brew - Chicago Avenue
Firecakes Donuts - Main Street
Hizemans - Washington Street
Naper Nuts & Sweets - Jefferson Avenue
Quiubo - Water Street
Santo Cielo - Water Street
SixtyFour - Wine Bar & Kitchen - Water Street
Sweet Home Gelato - Main Street
The Lantern - Chicago Avenue
Each restaurant may have different guidelines for the fundraiser when it comes to dine-in and carry out. Expecting it to be a busy day, Tufano also recommends calling ahead.
