(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The city of St. Charles has won the title of best water in Kane County.

The competition for best water in Kane County has been a fluid situation for several years.
“No one can remember when St. Charles won it last. If we’ve ever won it last,” says Tim Wilson, public works manager for environmental services in the city of St. Charles.
He said St. Charles is excited to be at the top this year.
“Aurora and Elgin - they’re always in the running. If they’re not first, they’re second or third,” Wilson said.
But Wilson says this year, the judges -- all retired water operators -- picked St. Charles’ well water in a blind taste test as the place with the best water.
“Softer. It has that clear, refreshing flavor. You don’t want water too soft, otherwise it removes all the minerals so you have zero taste then. And if you remove too many minerals it makes it too aggressive, too.”
St. Charles now competes in the statewide taste test.
