The Lake County Sheriff’s Office said a school bus driver is behind bars for allegedly being drunk when driving students last week.

The Sheriff’s Office said that on Thursday afternoon, 61 year-old James Dolan was taking students home from Prairie Middle School in Barrington District 220, when he got into a crash. Police say Dolan had turned left in front of an oncoming vehicle at Cuba and Ela Roads. Roads were slick and the SUV could not stop in time before hitting the bus.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office said deputies detected Dolan was impaired and eventually determined he was more than twice the legal minimum for drunkenness. No one was injured. Dolan is being held on $100,000 bond.
