(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Indiana state police were involved in a bizarre chase.

It started with a 9-1-1 call that went airborne after hitting the median on I-65 in Fair Oaks just after 3 p.m. Wednesday.

A state trooper was dispatched and pulled up behind a Prius that was going about 25 mph, likely because of damage from the crash.

The trooper then pulled up alongside, and the driver stuck his hand out the window and flipped off the officer, police said. This continued for about 7 miles.

“Stop sticks” that deflate tires were placed in the road, and the driver of the Prius hit them. The driver continued driving on the vehicle’s rims and at one point reached speeds of 60 mph, police said.

He lost control of the car at a bend in the road and crashed. The driver was taken into custody and to a hospital for evaluation.

Later, 23-year-old Kevin M. Calderone was taken to Jasper county Jail and charged with resisting law enforcement and reckless driving, state police said.
