(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – A 22-year-old Peoria woman was ordered held on $100,000 bond for allegedly leading police on a high-speed chase in DuPage County after two of her companions stole more than $300 in fragrances from Nordstrom Rack, authorities said.
Chrischauna Smith was charged with one count of aggravated fleeing and eluding, a Class 4 felony, in connection with an incident that began around 5 p.m. Friday at Shops of Oak Brook.
An Oak Brook officer saw two individuals wearing hoodies and surgical masks enter a car that was reverse-parked in the parking lot, the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office said. When the officer began following the vehicle, driven by Smith, it made an illegal U-turn against a red light and sped away.
In the ensuing police pursuit, Smith reached speeds in excess of 115 miles per hour and entered I-294, officials allege. Other Oak Brook police officers a short time later identified the wanted vehicle on I-290. Smith allegedly cut them off and struck a squad car, causing both vehicles to go off the road.
Smith and one of her companions, 18-year-old Chicago resident Jujuan Jarmon, were taken into custody, while a third individual, a juvenile, fled on foot before being caught.

Police say Jarmon and the juvenile had entered Nordstrom Rack with empty bags and placed $377.67 worth of fragrances in the bags before leaving without paying.
Jarmon was charged with one count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, burglary and retail theft. A judge set his bond at $30,000 over the weekend, officials said.
The juvenile, also charged with retail theft and burglary, was ordered released into the custody of parents and was to be placed on electronic home monitoring.
DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin noted the foiled robbery was the latest crime to escalate into a potentially deadly high-speed chase.
“Once again, I fear we are pressing our luck and it is only a matter of time before someone gets seriously injured or killed,” he said in a news release.
