CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - This morning’s commute on the Dan Ryan Expressway reached nightmare status.
A jackknifed dump truck on the inbound Dan Ryan near Roosevelt caused a 9-mile backup. The accident occurred around 5:15 a.m. After the crash, the truck began leaking fuel. There was no report of injuries. Chicago Fire and IDOT crews’ clean up took up the three right lanes, with only the left lane open.
As a result, the inbound Dan Ryan became a parking lot. According to WBBM traffic reporter Beau Duran, the back-up began at the Skyway.
All lanes were reopened a little after 7 a.m., however, the inbound travel time remained horrific. A trip from 95th Street to the Byrne Interchange was estimated to take 1 hour and 9 minutes.
