CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Speculation that OPEC Plus will decide to cut oil production at its meeting Wednesday has angered U.S. Senator Dick Durbin.
Durbin said it doesn't matter what President Joe Biden or congress does, they can't catch up to the the greed of oil producers whether they are domestic or abroad.
"They're determined to make a buck at our expense."
He wants more legal options to stop the run up of prices, but doesn’t seem to think Congressional hearings would make any difference.
"If it's just a hearing, why waste your time...we aren't going to pass a law that's going to have some strength in bringing down these prices."
Speaking in Lawndale about federal funds for legal aid and his thoughts on the Supreme Court's new term, the Democrat even called oil producers extortionists for trying to profit at a time that he says supply and demand signal prices should be dropping.
