CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Senator Dick Durbin’s guy didn’t win the mayor’s race, but he said it’s time to get behind the guy who did.

Durbin had endorsed Paul Vallas. He said, at the time, “We need a mayor who has a record of experience.”

However, he congratulated mayor-elect Brandon Johnson and offered to help him in any way he can.

And Durbin said it wasn’t an awkward conversation.

“The election ended at 7 p.m. on Tuesday and a new era began," he said.

“We’ve got to put that behind us. Whatever our political differences, I hope that we all share the same hope for the city.”
