Elderly couple still shaken after burglars posed as police target them

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — An elderly couple on Chicago’s Southwest Side was targeted last week by burglars posing as police officers.

A few days before, a neighbor of Ann Robertson noticed someone taking pictures from a car driving slowly down the block.  Then the 91-year-old said a man came to her door and said he needed to check her pipes.

“I thought he was police. I thought it was safe. He had a round circle that said, ‘Police,’” Robertson told CBS 2.

She said he pushed his way in to her house in Clearing that she shares with her husband and daughter.

“He put me in a chair and he pushed me in front of the sink,” she continued.

Video from a neighbor showed three men in a black pickup truck with no license plates enter the house and return quickly, pulling down baseball caps to cover their faces.

Robertson said they stole money she was going to pay for groceries and utilities.
