Elderly woman killed in house fire on Far South Side

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A fire on the Far South Side has left an elderly woman dead and her husband fighting for his life.

A fire broke out on the second floor of a home near 105th and South Forest Ave in Roseland.

Just before 4:00 a.m., Patricia Farmer, 71 was found unresponsive and later pronounced dead.

Her 77- year-old husband remains hospitalized in critical condition. Neighbors were shocked to hear the news and tell CBS that farmer was a great woman and the neighborhood mother.

A firefighter was also taken to a hospital with a minor leg injury. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
