CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A residential fire on the West Side left an elderly woman seriously hurt.
A Chicago fire official said crews responded to the two-story building on Superior near Wood at about 7:50 p.m. for a two-alarm fire. An 80-year-old woman was rescued from the bottom floor home and transported to Ascension St. Mary Hospital in serious condition.
Portions of the West Town building collapsed, the CFD said.
Firefighters battled the flames for nearly an hour before striking the fire out.
The building’s other occupants were all accounted for. No other injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
