Employee shoots 2 robbery suspects in Round Lake Beach; Police continue to search for 2 additional suspects

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A convenience store employee in Round Lake Beach shot two people who were trying to commit an armed robbery Monday night.

The shooting happened around 10:45 p.m. Monday at One Stop Food and Liquor, in the 1000 block of Fairfield Road, according to the Round Lake Beach Police Department.

Police said a man and woman entered the business and ordered the employees to get behind the counter at gunpoint.

At one point during the incident, police said, one of the employees grabbed a gun and shot several rounds at the suspects, striking both suspects. The suspects then fled the store into a waiting vehicle, which fled the area northbound Fairfield.

The vehicle was later spotted by police. A pursuit went down a dead-end road. Police said the driver of the vehicle and a passenger in the front seat fled on foot, leaving behind both injured suspects.

The injured suspects were taken to Condell Hospital in Libertyville. Their condition at this time is unknown.

Police said a perimeter was set and a K9 unite was called in to assist in the search for the driver and front passenger, however they were not located.

The Round Lake Police Department continues to investigate this incident.
