CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — New Census figures show the Chicago neighborhood that has suffered the greatest loss of population and housing units is the Englewood community on the South Side.

In 2010, the Englewood neighborhood had more than 30, 600 residents. In 2020, that number dropped by more than 6,000, a 20% reduction.

And the drop in neighboring West Englewood was nearly as bad — 16% — and loss of nearly 6,000 residents.

The Chicago Sun-Times reported that during that time, the combined drop in housing units in those two neighborhoods was more than 2,800.

Roseland had the third highest loss with fewer than 500 residents loss.

While there were sizable population losses in Englewood and West Englewood, the city as a whole saw a slight increase.
