WHEELING, Ill. (AP) — The Korean Cultural Center of Chicago is hosting an exhibition to celebrate the Lunar New Year.
“The Unique Lines of Korea: Hanbok” is the title of the exhibition highlighting a major holiday in South Korea.
Hanbok is a traditional colorful two-piece garment worn for formal and semi-formal occasions and for festivals, celebrations and ceremonies.
The exhibition, which runs through March 3 at the Wheeling-based cultural center, features hanbok from past and present. Many featured items were brought to the U.S. during immigration of the 1970s and 1980s.
The program focuses on the history of the hanbok and its “beauty in harmony with nature,” showing various kinds of hanbok and changes in style over the years.
The center is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays.
