(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Fertility specialists say there is no truth to rumors on social media that COVID-19 vaccines block pregnancy.
“There really is no scientific basis to it, just even in terms of how the vaccines work,” Dr. Tarun Jain, a fertility specialist and associate professor of medicine at Northwestern, said Monday.
He said almost all his patients ask whether they should get the vaccine. If they don’t ask, he brings it up.
To tell them any reports that say the vaccine is not good for pregnant women or for women who are trying to get pregnant - are wrong. Including the rumor that the vaccine produces antibodies that prevent pregnancy.
“There’s no data, no scientific basis to say that this would cause any detriment to their fertility or their pregnancy,” Jain said.
In fact, Dr. Jain said, pregnant women who contract COVID-19 are significantly more likely to be hospitalized and admitted to the ICU.
