CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The FBI believes a man wanted for allegedly assaulting a federal officer during the January 6th unrest at the U.S. Capitol may be in the Chicago area.
A tip to federal investigators has placed the man currently living in or around the city.
FBI Special Agent Siobahn Johnson said there may be some leniency if the man were to turn himself in but in the meantime the focus is on learning his identity with some community help.
She said he may have served in the military.
“Pictures that are circulating where he is wearing dog tags. We can definitely see on the left side of his coat that there is a patch with a star on it that indicates a strong resemblance to the U.S. Army star logo,” Johnson noted.

In addition to being accused of using wasp spray to assault a federal officer it’s also believed that the man used a police style baton to smash Capitol building windows.
What also concerns the FBI is that bringing these items shows forethought and intent.
“We can all agree that most people don’t walk around with wasp spray or a police baton on an average day, that those are things that you bring with you with very specific actions in mind,” the special agent said.
