(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Employees of the Field Museum have filed union representation petitions with the National Labor Relations Board.
The workers say, in a statement, "It's the culmination of hundreds of conversations among colleagues in which we have shared our experiences and our ideas to make the Field Museum a more equitable, sustainable, and transparent workplace.”
The employees launched the effort in October and said a majority of the nearly 300 employees signed union cards. They say they asked museum CEO Julian Siggers to voluntarily recognize the union, but he refused.
They employees are being represented by AFSCME.
