CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) —After an apartment fire on Chicago's South Side Thursday morning, a 12-year-old boy didn't want paramedics to take him to a hospital because he was worried about his dogs.
That's when a battalion chief came to the aid of the boy and the dogs.
Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford said the boy had inhaled smoke from the fire on 69th Street near Dante Avenue. The boy was afraid if he left the dogs behind, they would be taken away by the city.
Langford Battalion Chief Bridgette Dunagan promised to take care of the dogs until the boy returned from the hospital.
The dogs were dirty because of ash from the fire, so Dunagan gave them a bath.
The boy was taken to a hospital, where doctors said he was in good condition.
