(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Five people -- including a teen boy -- were injured Monday afternoon when a car plowed into a sandwich shop in west suburban Hinsdale.
First responders arrived around 2:30 p.m. at Fontanos, 9 S Lincoln St., for a report of a car that had driven into the building.
A 14-year-old pedestrian was struck outside the business and critically injured, Hinsdale police said. The teen was transported to Hinsdale Hospital and then later flown to Comer Children’s Hospital at the University of Chicago Hospital in critical condition.
Three people inside the restaurant were struck by the vehicle or debris. They were transported to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in serious condition.
In addition, one person inside the restaurant was treated and released from the scene.
Preliminary information indicates the vehicle was leaving a parking lot across the street when it collided with the building, officials said. Police have interviewed the driver, who was not injured in the accident.
An investigation continues.
