GARY, Ind. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A 20-year-old Gary, Indiana woman is facing a long list of charges following a traffic stop early Thursday.
Indiana State Police said a trooper was heading east on I-80/94 near Cline Avenue around 2:30 a.m. Thursday, when he noticed a vehicle approaching “an extremely high rate of speed."
The Chrysler 300, he said, blew past him weaving around traffic. The trooper pursued the vehicle, caught up, and was able to pace the vehicle at 142 mph.
The driver did not initially respond when the trooper activated his emergency lights and siren; but eventually she pulled over for a traffic stop.
The trooper suspected the driver was operating under the influence. She was later found to have a blood-alcohol level of .12 percent, which is over the legal limit of .08 percent, police said.
Naomie K. Johnson, 20, was taken to the Lake County, Indiana Jail.
She faces a variety of charges, including resisting law enforcement, a level 6 felony; driving while intoxicated; and reckless driving. The vehicle she was driving was impounded, Indiana State Police said.
