Girl, 4, shot while walking with father in Englewood

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A 4-year-old girl was shot while walking Tuesday afternoon near her Englewood home.

A 4-year-old girl, who has yet to be identified, was shot twice in the arm while walking with her father near the corner of West 61st and South Wallace around 4:30 p.m.

One witness told CBS 2, “I just literally spoke to them. We were out here talking, then they walked past – and the next thing you know, a shooting just started going off.”

The man said he was sitting in his parked car when a vehicle full of people pulled up and opened fire on others in the 600 block of West 61st Street.

“The bullet came close to hitting my head,” the man told CBS 2. “It’s lodged in the back of my side window.”

He said he can't get the child's screams out of his mind.

“The screams, you know, that’s what hurt me – the screams,” he said. “That’s a scream that I won’t ever forget, because I have kids – I have a daughter – and I can understand what they’re going through, you know seeing your baby girl get hit.

“It has to stop,” the man added.

The 4-year-old girl, now at Stroger Hospital, is expected to survive.

Chicago police are still investigating. So far, no one is in custody.
