CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — An 9-year-old girl died after she was shot in Portage Park Saturday night, Chicago police said.
The girl was with a group of people near Eddy Street and Long Avenue at about 9:40 p.m. when police said someone crossed the street and shot her in the head.
A male in the group fought with the shooter, police said. He tried to take away the weapon, and during that scuffle, the gunman was shot in the face.
The man was taken to the hospital initially in critical condition.
The girl was transported to another hospital, where she died. Police found the weapon at the scene.
Officials have not shared a possible motive for the shooting.
