Glitches reported for Illinois’ new Vax Verify portal

Illinois’ new Vax Verify portal is full of glitches

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Illinois' new Vax Verify portal is supposed to make proving vaccination status easier. But just days after its launch glitches are being reported Tuesday morning.

The portal is concerning to some experts especially when compared to other states. Alexis Hancock, director of engineering for the Electronic Frontier Foundation, said she reviews these kinds of portals across the country.

"I'll say it's one of the worst ones in terms of initial barrier to entry," Alexis Hancock told CBS 2.

CBS 2 reported records on the portal have been inaccurate.

"You're going to have tons of people who are more worried about vaccine passports and not worrying about protecting their credit," Brian Linder with a cybersecurity firm Checkpoint Research told CBS 2.

Hancock and Linder agreed that the state's use of the consumer credit reporting company Experian for identity verification opens users up to potential fraud.

"In New York and California and Louisiana, you could just provide the information that you have on your CDC card," Hancock said.

Those whose information is not correct are advised to contact their vaccination providers to have it corrected.
