(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — When there’s a need, people show up to help. That’s what happened in Woodridge during the second day of cleanup from Sunday night’s tornado.

Rick and Carol Luecke celebrated their 51st anniversary last Saturday and felt fortunate that their Woodridge Drive home was still standing. Some of their neighbors were not as fortunate.

“We had the stimulus, and we wanted to be able to help somebody out because we didn’t need it as much as they do,” said Carol Luecke, who was carrying $800 to give away.

“It’s just sad. We’re neighbors, two blocks away, and we’re absolutely fine. These guys, it’s devastating what happened, so I just wanted to give a little bit away to people.”

Jasmine Escareno doesn’t even live in the neighborhood, but she wanted to help. She had a cart full of water, fruit and other snacks.

“I’ve been a 10-year resident of Woodridge and I feel compelled to help,” she said.
