Gun owner fires back during attempted robbery on South Side

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A man is recovering after being shot during an attempted robbery in West Englewood Saturday night, Chicago police said.

Authorities said at around 9 p.m. the 31-year-old man was approached by two people while getting out of his car near 56th and Elizabeth Streets, and one of them pulled out a gun and demanded his belongings.

The man also drew a weapon, and they shot at each other before the robbers ran off. Police said the man has a concealed carry license.

CPD said he was listed in good condition at the hospital with a gunshot wound to his hand.

There was no one in custody and no word if the would-be thieves were also wounded.
