CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Harry Caray’s on Kinzie Street in River North reopens Friday following the second shutdown.

Harry Caray’s owner Grant DePorter said he is excited to be reopening the Kinzie location after most recently being closed for four and a half months. He is starting with dinner only.

"It's fun that we are reopening and baseball is coming back now, and we are hopeful that everything starts feeling normal in the summer for everybody. It has been an exercise, but we are just glad to still be around. A lot of my friends closed restaurants that will never reopen," DePorter said. "So excited to reopen Harry Caray's on Kinzie Street...we've been around 34 years. Closing twice for the pandemic was an interesting, tricky exercise to go through, but we are excited to finally get back to business."

After two shut-downs and a year of pandemic experience, he said his staff have become experts at safety.

Deporter said Dutchie Caray, Harry’s widow, is doing well. She’s had the vaccine and will be, in his words, running around the restaurant this weekend.

Dutchie is 91.
