CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The winners of Chicago’s first-ever snowplow-naming contest, which drew over 80,000 votes, have been announced.
Chicagoans chose the seven winners, each of which will now be attached to one of the city’s 300 snowplows, out of a list of 50 names posted to the City’s website on Jan. 15.
Originally, only six winners were supposed to be announced, but the City upped the number to seven due to a near-tie for sixth place, the mayor’s office wrote in a press release.
The seven snowplow names that received the most votes include:
1. Mrs. O’Leary’s Plow
2. Da Plow
3. Salter Payton
4. Sears Plower
5. Sleet Home Chicago
6. Holy Plow!
7. Jean Baptiste Point du Shovel
Some great options, sadly, did not make the cut. Honorable mentions include “Super Bowl Shovel,” “Ernie Snowbanks,” and “Little Dibbie,” to name a few.
“The love of Chicago really shined through with numerous and creative Chicago-related names that were submitted and the thousands of voting responses we received for the 50 finalists,” Mayor Lori Lightfoot said.
Jean Baptiste Point du Shovel will take care of Du Sable Lake Shore Drive. The other six will operate in the six designated snow zones across the city.
Once the names are installed on each snowplow, residents who submitted the winning names will be offered a photo opportunity with the named snowplow.
