CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Advocates for the homeless, including a handful of Chicago Aldermen, rallied outside City Hall Thursday, demanding more from the city as evictions loom for potentially tens of thousands of people.
The advocates are fighting for movement on two initiatives that they say would get people off the streets and keep others in their homes, the Just Cause Eviction Ordinance and the Bring Chicago Home Resolution.
Annie Howard, an organizer with the Chicago Housing Justice League said thousands could be put out of their homes this winter as there are currently 20,000 eviction cases looming in Cook County.
Alderman Byron Sigcho-Lopez said the city "needs to address injustices and it starts with housing."
The advocates for the homeless also want a long-term dedicated revenue stream, the preservation of single room occupancy units and new protections and assistance for those facing eviction.
