CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Vice President Kamala Harris made two stops in Chicago this weekend in an effort to rally the Democrat vote, but many residents in line for the event said they had already made up their mind ahead of Harris’ visit.
In fact, many had already voted.
“Definitely know who I’m voting for, yes, no doubt about it,” said one attendee. “I’ve voted already, yes.”
“I’ve not voted yet, but I do know who I’m going to vote for,”said another. “For me, it was a very easy decision. It’s always very important to do your research.”
Grand Boulevard resident Sy Lewis, though, said her vote wasn’t a sure thing just yet.
“I have not voted, and I have not made up my mind,” Lewis said. “I’m hoping that this event will inspire me to make my final decision.”
Lewis said she wants more clarity on the country’s financial outlook.
“I hope to hear her say that the country is moving toward a positive and a stronger direction, and that safety and security, and financial security — for all people: seniors, children, and everyone in between — will happen with this election,” Lewis said.
Inside the facility, Harris talked about what she described as the “duality” of democracy. When democracy’s intact, she said, it can provide extraordinary strength for its residents to “protect and fight for [their] rights, for equality, for justice.”
On the other hand:
“It is incredibly fragile,” Harris said. “It is only as strong as our willingness to fight for it, and so fight we will.”
