ST. CHARLES, MO/EDWARDSVILLE, IL (KMOX) - Some counties in MIssouri and Illinois are offering the chance to get on a waitlist for the coronavirus vaccine -- or at least a chance for you to raise your hand and say you want one.

The St. Charles County Health Department is encouraging residents to register online for the COVID vaccine. That doesn't mean you'll get to jump to the front of the line.

Sara Evers, Assistant Director of Public Health, tells KMOX that Missouri is in the first phase of distribution, giving priority to people who have direct contact with patients and for nursing care residents. The next phase will be first responders, frontline workers, assisted living residents and people over 75.

"We aren't able to vaccinate anyone in those priority groups until the state moves to that priority group as a whole, or until we get directives from the state or federal level that we can move to that next priority category," Evers says.

Evers says registering does not guarantee you a vaccine, but does provide a way for the department to contact you when doses are available.

Likewise Toni Corona, Director of Madison County IL Health Department says their survey is for planning purposes. "

That's the last thing I want people to think is that it's first come first served and I was the first," Corona says. "That is not what this is intended for and I hope we've made that pretty clear."

Suburban Cook County rolled out a registration system for residents who want coronavirus vaccine updates, including when they will be able to receive their first shot. Lake County unveiled a system called "AllVax" that allows residents to sign up for coronavirus updates, schedule appointments and register for the vaccine.

According to the Cook County Department of Public Health's website, the new registration form will be used "to gather information from individuals who would like to receive regular updates about when and where they can receive the COVID-19 vaccination."

Corona says surveys will help plan for demand at clinics as the nation moves into the next phases of distribution.
