CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Nurses who work at the Howard Brown Health Clinic reached a tentative contract agreement with the Chicago-based health center.

The tentative agreement means the nurses will avoid a strike that was scheduled for Monday.

After nearly four months of negotiations, the bargaining committee called it a monumental win.

According to the Illinois Nurses Association (INA), which represents the registered nurses, the new contract includes wage increase, retention bonuses and language to improve the staffing ratio.

The first year of the contract will include an immediate 5.5% pay increase plus a $1,500 retention bonus each year for the next three years.

Specific site-based staffing minimums must include one full-time nurse for every two primary care providers.

Call center nurses will also have the option to work remotely.

A ratification vote is scheduled for Wednesday evening.

Rank and file members told the INA they expect the contract will be approved.
