ST. CHARLES (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Five people are facing multiple felony charges after police in St. Charles discovered a brothel and uncovered a larger human trafficking operation.

The investigation into the brothel, according to St. Charles Police Chief James Keegan, led to other locations operating mostly in apartments in Chicago and several other suburban communities.

“It was like an onion, the more we peeled it back, the more it stunk,” Keegan said.

He said ten women were taken into protective custody.

“The victims that we recovered are from South America, various parts of South America, but they were flown into the United States and then trafficked throughout different jurisdictions,” Keegan noted.

Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie Mosser identified those charged.

“The following defendants were charged: Daniel Hurtado, Christian Hurado,  Martha Hurtado-Hernandez, Rigoberto Parra and Hector Briseno.

Each is charged with multiple felonies that include involuntary servitude and human trafficking. More charges are expected.
