IDPH reports 3,293 new COVID-19 cases, lowest in more than 2 months

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The Illinois Department of Public Health on Saturday reported 3,293 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19, the lowest daily caseload since Oct. 19 when 3,113 cases were reported.

A man in his 30s from Cook County and two men in their 40s — one from Cook and the other from Kane County — were among the 66 additional coronavirus-related deaths reported on Saturday.

Since the pandemic’s start, Illinois has a total of 934,142 cases, including 15,865 deaths.

Over the past 24 hours, 54,462 tests were performed for a total 12,939,386. As of Sunday night, 4,021 people were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19. Of those, 874 patients were in the intensive care unit and 494 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators.

The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity for cases as a percent of total test from Dec. 19 through Dec. 25 is 6.8%. The preliminary seven-day statewide test positivity from Dec. 19 through Dec. 25 is 8.5%.

Earlier this week, Moderna shipped out its COVID-19 vaccine after the FDA authorized it for public use last Friday. In Illinois, including Chicago, 191,000 vaccine doses have been administered as of Tuesday night.
