
CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Some Illinois restaurants will be opening their doors for sit-down service again.
The Illinois Department of Public Health on Sunday announced Region 2, which covers parts of North Central Illinois — not the Chicago area — has met the metrics to move out of Tier 2 mitigations and into Tier 1 mitigations, which will allow limited indoor dining.
State health officials also reported 4,162 new confirmed and probable cases of coronavirus disease today including 29 additional deaths, 24 of those were in Cook County. A man in his 20s from Peoria County in Region 2 also is one of the 29 who died from the virus.
Since the pandemic’s start, the IDPH reported a total of 1,068,829 cases, including 18,208 deaths.
Over the past 24 hours, 96,845 tests were performed for a total 14,763,993. As of Saturday night, 3,408 people were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19. Of those, 720 patients were in the intensive care unit and 387 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators.
The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity for cases as a percent of total test from Jan. 10 through Jan. 16 is 6.1%. The preliminary seven-day statewide test positivity from Jan. 10 through Jan. 16 is 7.1%.
