(WBBM NEWSRADIO) - High School athletes in Illinois are entering the world of endorsements.

High school quarterbacks, swimmers, and shot-putters can start making money related to their athletic achievements. The IHSA Board of Governors has approved a new board policy that covers Name, Image and Likeness rules to earn compensation.

The Policy is really more about what high school students can not do, including using IHSA logos, team names or mascots. They cannot engage in NIL activity during school hours or at games and tournaments, can't associate with drugs, alcohol or guns and, among other rules, it's up to the student athlete to make sure what they endorse doesn't run afoul with college eligibility.
