CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Illinois health officials have reported another daily tally of coronavirus cases that exceeds 2,000, and the statewide positivity rate has crept up to its highest level in more than a month.
The Illinois Department of Public Health on Monday said 2,742 new cases of coronavirus had been reported, including 13 additional deaths.
This comes as the state’s daily total of coronavirus cases continues an upward trend.
Meantime, the state’s latest positivity rate has risen to 4.3%. This is the highest level since Sept. 3, when the rolling average was reported as 4.4%.
Although the number is low compared to that of neighboring “hot spot” states, the rising rate here is an indication that infections are increasing.
Some 1,764 people are in the hospital with COVID-19 in Illinois. Of those, 377 patients were in the ICU and 153 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators, state health officials said.
