(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A new study indicates recreational cannabis legally bought in Illinois is priced much higher than the average prices in other states.
According to the cannabis data and market analysis company Headset, the average prices for cannabis products in Illinois are 89% higher than the rest of the United States.
Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker was asked about the state’s price point at a news conference Thursday and seemed unfazed. He noted that only one neighboring state, Missouri, has legalized cannabis.
“Roughly 30% of the revenue that we get from the cannabis industry comes from people coming to Illinois and spending money at dispensaries,” the governor said.
The state’s cannabis industry has provided almost $450 million to state and local governments, he noted. Pritzker also said Illinois has spread opportunities to minority communities, though more work needs to be done.
Headset says Illinois has the third-largest cannabis market in the country, behind California and Michigan.
